Year 1: P6 – Logarithms and Exponentials

P6.1 Logarithms

Step One:

Learn

The first video in the series on logarithms. This video looks at what a logarithm is and how statements involving indices can be written in logarithmic form.

Step Two:

Check

P6.1 Logarithms

This is one of the big new topics on Year 1 Maths.  Hopefully you’ve made sense of the idea behind logarithms and are ready to check you do actually know your stuff

P6.2 Exponential curves and the natural logarithm

Step One:

Learn

P6.2 Exponential curves and the natural logarithm

4 Videos

In this video from the series on logarithms and exponentials, we look at what an exponential curve looks like and how it’s characteristics are different from a polynomial. We also look at how we can apply our knowledge of graph transformations to help us understand how to complete an sketch of an exponential curve.

Step Two:

Check

P6.2 Exponential curves and the natural logarithm

This is where you can check if you have got your head around the new wunder-number ‘e’.  You better had, because huge swathes of what you do next year will be using it!

P6.3 Transforming non-linear curves

Step One:

Learn

The first of two videos that complete the series on exponentials and logarithms. The video looks at how we can find co-efficients in a experimental model that is polynomial in characteristic. This is done by using log laws to transform the model into something that is linear and therefore much easier to work with.

Step Two:

Check

P6.3 Transforming non-linear curves

This section is all about modelling.  You need to be able to do the two ‘standard’ transformations of non-linear models into linear models, so this quiz will check you know what you are doing.
