Year 2: P5 – Trigonometry
P5.4 Radians, arcs and sectors
Step One:
Learn
The first video on Year 2 trigonometry where we deal with the idea of radian measure. This video explains what a radian is, how to convert between radians and degrees and gives an example of solving a trigonometric equation with a range measured in radians.
The second video on Year 2 trigonometry. This video looks at how calculations involving arcs and sectors is made simpler when working in radians and also gives an example of how sine rule, cosine rule and area of a triangle calculations are performed when working in radians.
A short video from the trigonometry series, looking at exact values for trigonometric ratios for certain angles.

P5.5 Reciprocal trigonometric functions and identities
Step One:
Learn
Another video from the trigonometry section of the Year 2 A Level course. This video introduces the concept of the reciprocal trig functions – sec, cosec and cot – looks at how they an be used in solving equations and then finally explains the shape of their graphs and why these ratios cannot take certain values.
Step Two:
Check
P5.6 Addition and double angle formulae
Step One:
Learn
Yet more trigonometry from Year 2 of the course. This video introduces the Additional Formulae which represent a significant chunk of your required trigonometry knowledge. This really does take a significant step into the wonderfully huge world of what trigonometry and trigonometric relationships can do.
Step Two:
Check
P5.7 aSinx + bCosx
Step One:
Learn
This video follows on from the previous video about the sum of two trig functions. It looks at how to find max and min values of the function by considering the structure of the function, without the need for differentiation.
