Year 2: P2 – Algebra and Functions
P2.8 Algebraic fractions
Step One:
Learn
This Year 2 video deals with the four operations with algebraic fractions. Admittedly, it is essentially GCSE content, but done with more complex expressions, as is vital knowledge for being able to manipulate fractions on the second year of the A Level course
This is the first of two videos on partial fractions. This technique allows you to ‘break apart’ an algebraic fraction which in tune, makes life easier when doing series expansions and integrating.

P2.9 Functions
Step One:
Learn
The first of three videos on functions. While some material will be familiar from GCSE, the video goes into more technical detail about the definition of a function and issues surrounding domain and range.
This second of three videos on functions looks at inverse functions and in particular, the graphical relationship between a function and it’s inverse.

P2.10 Modulus Function
Step One:
Learn
The first in three videos on the modulus function. This video introduces the modulus and describes the technical definition and why it is important. The video finishes by looking at how to sketch equations involving the modulus.
The second of three videos on the modulus function from the Year 2 Pure course. In it we look at how to solve equations involving the modulus and how a seemingly simple linear-looking equation can actually have more than one solution.
